Award and the award winner
With the bestowal of the Avicenna Award, we hope to promote the coming together of the cultures as well as a breaking down of the stereotypes associated with them. Individuals, organizations or projects will be awarded for their efforts to increase understanding between the East and West, to build social and intellectual bridges between the cultures and to promote a peaceful and tolerant coexistence.
The award of up to €100,000 is comprised of donations and is presented every other year. The prize money can be divided among more than one awardee. The division of the prize to one winner from the Orient and one from the Occident is desirable, but not necessary.
The first award ceremony will take place on May 10th, 2009 at St. Paul’s church in Frankfurt under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the Federal State of Hessen. Through the Avicenna Award Ceremony we hope to raise public awareness once again of the importance of tolerance, integration and intercultural coexistence.
The winner of the Award should fulfil the following criteria:
- The accomplishments of the winner/winners should reflect the culture bridging philosophy. The preamble in the articles of association is fundamental.
- Human rights are of fundamental importance to the Avicenna Award Association and its awardees.
- Outstanding personal achievements and/or promising ventures should be promoted.
- The Advisory Board will give special consideration to candidates who, due to unfavourable conditions or less public recognition, have produced comparable achievements.
